Sanat Nedir? / What is Art? – 2016

Between 2014 and 2016, I did interviews about ‘What is Art?’ on the streets of Istanbul. In June 2016, I uploaded this collage which I arranged from audio recordings to a bluetooth speaker. And then installate it in the trash can in front of the old building of Istanbul Modern, Antrepo 3.
Museums can be referred to as the memory hub in societies. As places that hold the memory of the past and/or the present… For this very reason, I placed this installation in a trash can at the entrance of a memory center – a trash can is actually a form that constantly refreshes memory. Despite the museum, I wanted to announce an alternative voice that reflects the street’s perception of art: Somewhere in transition between turning to artwork and becoming trash -from the trash can inside a museum…
